EPOS ELS3

They are more voiced toward AV and use with a sub, I'd think of the M5i as a more realistic comparison.

I've listened to the ELS3's extensively, and they are amazing speakers if you value clarity above anything else. The only shortcoming is obviously the bass with is tight but lacking in extention. I've found the Quad 11L's too lean and the B&W 686's good but a bit muffled. Hope this helps.

it does, thanks. have bought a creek amp (other thread) so know the epos will be more suited to that than the linn. wife factor means speakers have to stay compact.

having woken up with some sense of budget am keen on the ELS3's with a sub to follow (clarity very very high on priorities) but will audition superior speakers and see how tempted i get - proac, pmc, new avi's........

I own a pair and use them with an old Audiolab 8000a. Agree about the clarity and tight bass - although admittedly not the deepest. I use them in quite a small listening room - about 3 metres by 3 metres. They are quite small speakers and work better in my room than my previous Quad 11l's. Got them from Epos website for £120 as an ex dem pair. Looked brand new to me. Very pleased. Worth trying their site. May have ex-dems of other more expenszive models at a substantial discount. Also hoping to go down the Creek amplification route sometime soon. Have always been impressed with the Creek / Epos sound. Just sounds right to me

OK, I had the ELS3s and now have proAc Tablette Reference 8 Sigs and honestly it's a different world. I only paid £595 for the ProAcs brand new too, yes it's still 3 x the price of the Epos but it's the difference between hifi and decent midi speakers. Huge.

good price on the proacs. ended up taking a punt on some alr jordans on ebay - figured if i didnt get on with them i'd sell them on. either way the slippery slope has begun!

audiolab 8000 - back in my student days this was part of my 'virtual' hifi and remained on the wish list for several years. i still remember the day it knocked the kenwood 3020 off!!!!!
