Hi Guys from What Hi-Fi test team

Which of the above two subwoofers would you recommend for a Hi-Fi setup ?

They are both the same price so price is irrelevant. Just want to know which is better one to buy for my Hi-Fi

I am swinging towards the Epos as it has a larger driver and 300w amp and also goes down to 20Hz but the Wharfedale is also highly rated but has a smaller driver, weaker amp and only goes down to 35Hz.

I'm guessing here that you are UK based and looking at getting the Epos from Superfi? If that is the case, it is well worth stretching yourself to get the M model at a small premium. It is in a different league entirely for build and sound.

I looked on the Superfi site earlier to get a link to the M sub, but I could not find it...

ÿ

My M sub never worked properly, but it certainly looked absoultely fantastic in light cherry.ÿ

Do pioneer subwoofer.

They are the best.

Looking for some ridget cone.

The low componant.

Make sure the dampening is good in the cabinet its more important in these regions.

Hi the M SUB is the exact same as the ELS but has real wood cabinet ...is that right ?

Does the M SUB also feature a 300w built in amplifier like the ELS as I don't think it does and needs to be powered by a power amp

I may be wrong so let me know guys

The M Sub does have an inbuilt 300W amplifier. It is a bit more than an ELS; it is much much higher quality, and if you can find it for 250 GBP then it is a no brainer.

Not sure exactly what differences there are in the internals of the ELS and M versions. The control panels are outwardly identical, but I imagine there are internal component differences. Certainly the cabinet build of the M is far superior, and makes the ELS look a bit like it was hame-knitted, as we say in Scotland. It seems to have disappeared from the Superfi site - and I do mean "seems". The page is here:

http://www.superfi.co.uk/index.cfm/page/moreinfo.cfm/Product_ID/3301

Although it doesn't seem reachable via the main site.
