All of a sudden ive started receiving emails about every post on here thats had a new reply. It offers advice at the bottom of the email on how to stop these emails but i've followed the instructions and it's not there/not working! Can someone please tell me how to remove the marker so that i dont keep receiving emails? Thanks

Our sincere apologies. As we've covered here and elsewhere, the technical team were tinkering yesterday, and seem to have unlocked something they shouldn't. It's getting sorted as a matter of extreme priority.

And apologies also if you were trying to access the site early yesterday evening, when it was temporarily offline due to a power outage that caused some unrelated server issues.

Technology, eh? Ain't it grand...

Ah..

Thanks for the update Clare hehe... I've not been on for a while!

It doesnt bother me; just wondered how it'd started to happen!

Anyways... I specialise in IT & New Media recruitment; would you like me to start looking for candidates when you fire the current IT Team???? Haha.... ;)

If you check the other threads, you'll see that John Duncan is way ahead of you on that one...

BTW I've turned off your email notifications at this end, so they should stop soon.

Indeed, and I cut out the middle-man. And I live real close.

Around 10.30pm I switched my pc on and found my inbox inundated with members from the forum. I thought I'd knackered my new computer. I was acting like Corp. Jones from Dad's Army: "Don't panic, Mr. Manwaring! Don't panic!" Its the first time I've suffered computer paranoia.

Thanks WHFS&V IT dept.

I'm told the 'receive email notifications' option is now turned off for all existing members, but we're still working out how it got turned on.

The latest from the people with furrowed brows and two monitors seems to be that Community Server, which drives these forums, enables this as a default, so it's always been on, but we have no idea why it hasn't been sending them for almost a year then suddenly started.

If anyone finds they're still getting these mails and wants them stopped, let me know and I'll check your user profile at this end and make sure they cease. I hope...
See, this is why IT ain't cheap. In my day we had one 14" monitor if we was lucky
Given that I've now been waiting six weeks for our IT people to install a new monitor for me - it's on the premises somewhere, and I could have done it myself in about 2 mins, but rules is rules - I know what you mean about why IT isn't cheap.

And I'll bet they're looking at the ticket now on twin 24" cinema displays. Though I did notice you were hiring a Service Delivery Manager to be in charge of help desk - maybe he's not started yet...........

It must be all that slobbering and drooling over the new kit, and spitting your tea out when reading some of the cable threads on here. Should you wear a mask when you get your new one so you don't break it?

Oh, another change I have noticed is if I leave the computer for a while, I have to sign back onto the forum, whereas I didn't have to before.

Old one is fine, just about the size of a WWII US aircraft carrier, so swapping it for something that doesn't take up most of my desk here in the poky little garret where the forums live.

Frees up desk space, therefore you will work more efficiently, is how it goes? Plus with the old CRT monitors you had the old 'I can't see my screen in the afternoon sun so can't do any work' ploy.

..... And I always thought there was yet another problem with my profile. I turned the feature on. Once. Twice. And thrice. But never got any notification. In fact I thought the IT fixed a bug. LOL. Just my view. May be it was a mistake but it did fix a bug that existed and I believe someone should have tested it further before actually turning it off. Well, being a database guy its so easy to think ;)

Lol, I wouldn't trust anyone round here. Was it Groucho Marx who said "I wouldn't become a member of a club that would accept me as a member"?

LOL, just checked my email for the first time in two days... And there I was, thinking somebody loved me. Nope, just a whole load of WHF automated messages.
