Edifier R1700BTs speakers

Hi I am new to this forum and its a long long times since i had a seperates system but i`ve got a lot of LP`S so i bought a basic set up
1 x audio technica AT-LP80 Turntable
1 x pair of Edifier R1700BTs speakers

my wife and others say they sound ok to them but to me they sound `lifeless` for want of a better description .

Certain songs from records, mp3 player, tablet etc etc sound as though the music is in the same room but the singer is four streets away !!!
treble and bass just work ,the `spatial` setting helps a bit so i will get to my question..............at last

i have a cheapo set of active pc speakers ,i bought a 3.5mm Y spiltter and plugged it altogether, the cheapo speakers do make it sound ok i get some more treble and `life`

Is this ok to do i am i risking any issues

I can't find that model of turntable on AT's website or ebay. Is it old or new... Are you not quoting the wrong model number do you have a web link to the turntable.

On vinyl what setting are you using for the built in phono stage? It needs to be set to Line and not Phono and the sound quality is mostly down to the powered speakers as they have an amplifier built into one of them being the one with all of the dials that one is then connected to the other speaker with a standard two flex speaker cable. You must also check that the + and - are the same at both ends i.e Red to Red and Black to Black.

Silly question have you checked that all of the connections are correct.

its one cable connecting speakers like a DIN plug

may main concern was if i use the splitter cable and connect two set of active speakers will i harm anything

i am getting sound from the edifier speakers
but i thought it would be better ,altering the treble and bass seems to do not much

You're not risking anything Tony, but those Edifier's should be good enough on their own.
The reason @camcroft mentioned getting red and black cables the right way round is because your description of the sound suggests they may have been out of phase.

But it looks like you have a cable with factory fitted plugs connecting the two speakers together.
Is that correct?
EDIT: I see you've just described them as DIN plugs, so yes.
If so, assuming they're correctly wired,then you can't wrongly connect them 🤔

Presumably the AT cartridge was factory fitted?
But it's worth double checking that it's correctly wired.

I watched the AT video for the turntable and it doesn't mention anything about Din plugs only RCA's. The older discontinued LP60 also didn't have din connectors. Without being rude this is a basic turntable. I use my AT-LP120XUSBK with my powered Audioengine 5+ powered speakers with no problem at all being connected in the same way.
