Question Edifier 1700bt or Edifier r1280db?

Hi All,

Im kind of new to speakers and such and looking to stay under $150 or so.

Can anyone vouch for these speakers?

After reading this, im kind of leaning more towards the R1280DB.

I am open to other speakers too if they are better, these are just what I have gathered from my (nooby) research

My brother runs a pair of R1280DB with Cambridge Audio Dacmagic XS. They're ok-ish, I guess, but so veiled that he invested into isoacoustics mini-stands (which cost around 80-100 euro, which defeats the whole purpose of cheap desktop speakers). I recommended them after all the internet hype and based on this clip:

Were I to do it again, I'd tell him to get the 1700 instead. The 1280 are a bit too boxy- souding, and have to be equalised with boosted treble to sound decent. Well, actually, if he didn't need the convenience of remote control, I'd just advise getting propper studio monitors, but budget starts growing.

P.S: take the youtube clip with a (big) grain of salt, you're hearing much more besides the speakers themselves, it's just for a general idea.
