Hi

I have a niggly question and would like to ask for some help, please.

My dilemma is as follows.

I have an Arcam DV29 DVD player which I am really happy with the picture quality. I am thinking of purchasing a Sony BDP370 Blu Ray player because they are so cheap right now.

Will the Sony 370 play DVD's as good as my Arcam player? Is it worth the jump? I only have HD ready TV not full HD.

I appreciatte that once I start to buy and watch BD disks then I will see the differance but I still would like to enjoy my hundreads of DVD's with the best possible picture quality.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciatted.

Thank you.

Hmm, this is a tricky one. Whether the Sony will improve your DVDs depends on how good your telly's scaler is? It *might* or *might not* be better than the Sony - but I don't expect a big change either way.

I would say if Blu-rays are not a priority, stick with your Arcam. Then by the time it does there'll be newer, better etc.

EDIT: I will be shot for this, while I think the S370 is a great DVD player on my full HD LCD, I think it can be bettered for Blu-rays - I find the picture clean but a bit flat - little perception of depth, which I think was better in the older 360. You can wait and save up for a better player I say be it Sony or others.

Hi,

I haven't seen either player in action, assuming you will be keeping the Arcam though, there's no need to compromise as you will have both players available?

Can you take the Arcam to a local dealer who could show you the Sony then swap over and 'demo' your Arcam? Would help you make a more informed choice? Take a film or two you are familiar with and watch the same clips on both machines.

Cheers,

Cofnchtr.

Very interesting indeed! I hadn't thought of the TV upscaler part of it.

Thanks for your honest opinion on the S370.

Do you know, I might actually wait a bit longer, Enjoy what I have, a great picture from the Arcam and Panasonic Plasma and save £100 for later.

Good info, cheers.
