DVD Recorder with USB

Apologies if this is regarded as a very basic question, but if I buy a DVD recorder with a USB slot, will I be able to transfer anything I record onto a portable hard disc drive to playback on my laptop or are they designed to record input from an external drive?

Hi & welcome to the forum spamjetb

On my Panasonic DMREX78 HDD/DVD it will only allow you to copy / transfer files from a USB drive, BUT not from the recorder to the USB as far as i could work out having tried it. The way around it is to copy to a CD RE-Write then transfer the files on the pc / laptop to the usb device. You can at re-use the CD.
