dvd recorder and sky+

whats the best budget dvd recorder to buy? main job will be archiving progs from sky+ box (not box office films been told you cant do that!) only have old crt tv but will prob get entry lcd soon but not hd box for a while until price of that and subs drop. have read numerous horror stories about picture size, not reading signal, card from old sky box put into new sky+ box not allowing transfer from sky+ to dvd rec. ( old card was put in my new box when upgraded). can t afford mistake - any advice please? i kneel at the feet of the technogods - i am not worthy..........

I got a Sony DVD recorder for around 80 quid, for the sole purpose of what you're doing now. Not had any bother with it, it's done a solid job. The model is RDR-GX350. It can also upscale to 1080p and has a HDMI port, so for me it's a nice bargain with a bit of future proofing thrown in.
