New Sony dvd recorder

Just bought a new Sony dvd recorder with hdd to relieve my Sky HD box which is almost full of stuff I want to keep. Couple of questions, what's the best way to connect it? I currently have my Sky HD box direct to the tv via (sole)HDMI input and an optical cable to my Sony STRD 1200ES.The Sony Recoreder has an HDMI so thinking of routing both it and Sky through the Sony receiver but seem to be left with the only option of connecting the DVD recorder to the Sky box via a scart cable?? seems a bit medieval???

I'm also assuming that if I transfer any material recorded in HD from the Sky box hard drive to either the Sony hdd or record it straight on to a dvd then it won't play back in HD??

Thanks in advance

what model is the dvd recorder, i'm assuming it hasn't got hdmi inputs.if this is the case and can only connect via scart then you wont get hd as scart only supports sd

The recorder will be SD I'm afraid, no matter how you send it a signal or connect it up.

I have the same set-up, and the quality isn't too bad over Scart. Not really too much difference from the original.

Many folk actually prefer SD this way, and switch their TV to their scart input when watching SD programming.

My main reason for buyinhg the Recorder was to take stuff off my Sky HD hard drive and free up some space. It has an HDMI and upscales dvd's but I appreciate that it won't play anything back in proper HD. Just seemed a bit crude in this day and age that the only way I've got of transferring stuff from one box to another is via a scart lead.
