Help! I need some advice regarding buying a new DVD player!

I currently have a Sony Bravia 40EX503 TV, and have a Sony RDR-DC100 linked to it. This recorder is quite honestly, rubbish, so I really want to buy something better to go with the TV. Someone has mentioned some Humax sets. I am not a 'techie' but an old codger who just wants something to use which is not too difficult to set up and use, as I live too far away from my 6 year old grandson to help me!!

Any help would be much appreciated on this site, as I was advised to come here!

Do you have a budget in mind? I'd be more inclined to get a £100 Bluray player rather than a DVD player unless you want to spend < £50 or so.

EDIT - sorry, are you actually looking for a recorder?

OK. As simonlewis mentions above, a good HDD recorder with the ability to archive to disk would probably suit you best, though Bluray ones are a bit expensive. I'd be tempted to separate the two and get a £200-ish HDD recorder (I've had good experience with Humax) for recording and pausing TV, and a £100-ish Bluray player (ditto Sony) for watching discs.
