Having recently bought a Pio 4280 (which is quite simply the best thing I have bought) I am looking to ensure I have a DVD and AV package to do it justice. What would you recommend?

Whilst I am tempted by a blu ray player I am slightly worried by the load times of these players. Hence I would be interested in views of whether to stick with SD up sclaed DVD or go true HD DVD.

I currently have:

Denon 1910 DVD player (however I use a Thor scart connection as the player is only DVI and I am not that impress with the DVI on my old LCD TV)

Denon 1705 AV receiver (not sure if this is that great)

Kef 2005.2 speakers (Gale SYMPHONY 400 speaker cable)

The eternal question! I want to get something in the league of the TV and speakers which I perceive to sufficiently classy/in an equal league. It is the DVD/AV/cables that are my concern. Lets say 750-800. But happy to be guided.

Also I am not ruling out selling the lot (ex. TV of course) if there is a classy 2.1 system out them.

OK, at that budget we'd recommend the Panasonic DMP-BD30 Blu-ray player (@£300); Onkyo TX-SR605 receiver (£400), Chord Silver Plus HDMI (@£80) and Chord Silver Screen speaker cable (£5/m). That should do you!

Tks.

Do you think the Panasonic is as good at playing upscaled SD DVDs as other non HD DVD players? I was slightly put off by the load times in the recent HD supplement.

Is there an alternative DVD player out there that I would of missed out on due to the budget constraint?
