DVD-A possible with Marantz SR4400 receiver?

Need your help please. I want a universal player that i can use for DVD-A and SACD with my old Marantz SR4400 amp. The more im reading the more confused i get, It seems a lot of these universal players only output the signal via HDMI (?) and my amp doesnt have that, only the dedicated 5.1 inputs. It has the toslink of course but i have no idea whether it can be done with that connection.

So,

a) What universal player will work with it (budget up to 500 quid only) connects wise?

b) Will the player need to do the onboard decoding too, rather than the amp? as i dont know if the amp will decode DVDA/SACD
