Hi,

I have AKG K550 and a FIIO E12 amp currently using my Iphone 5 as the Dac. Would I see a noticeable improvement if I were to get a dragonflv 1.2 dac and rig everything up to it?

The thing is that everywhere I read, says that the Iphone already has a good dac, but is the dragonfly 1.2 far better?

If the iPhone had a good enough DAC, everyone would be taking an analogue interconnect from the headphone output and just plugging it into their systems.

Can you get a demo anywhere?

The DAC in the iPhone is plenty good enough and for Frank above, plenty of people already use the phone via its headphone output as a line level source, for which the iPhone is perfect.

It's only the paranoid and misinformed that seem to need additional and uneccessary DACs and notice that it's usually audiophiles.

I would also like to add that a good set of cans such as that used by the OP will far exceed the performance in terms of clarity than most hifi systems and would show up any shortcomings more readily.

Here we go again...

Have you compared the analogue output of an iPhone compared to the Dragonfly OD?

There is no need. Just the same as there is no need to put my hand in a fire to know that it is hot. I haven't tried that either though, so it might not be the case!

Simply put, the iPhone 5 is another example of an audibly transparent source. That is, it doesn't impart any sonic signature on the music and simply gets out of the way. If the Dragonfly DAC sounds different, then it is affecting the signal in some way, most likely there is a level difference in output, but that is likely to be the only difference, unless there is something wrong with the Dragonfly DAC.

So, are you paranoid or just misinformed?

Neither, and I'm a little sick and tired of the way you (and some others) on this forum label and judge other people on this forum because they say something you disagree with (regardless of who is in the right, although much of it is personal opinion). If you don't agree with it, by all means say so - it's a forum - but cease with the belittling. This forum's traffic is already suffering due to its issues - the last thing it needs is users being driven away by your incessant need to stamp your superiority over anyone and everyone.

Paranoia at least then. *biggrin*

Whatever.

Ok, this is a serious question... but are you aware that when you come out with childish replies like this, it really reflects quite badly on your business?

It's one thing to be an anonymous user like most of us on here, but you are posting as a business, and there are times when your posts don't do you any favours whatsoever. I know that myself for one, and I think some others have said in the past that your posts on here have directly resulted in us not wanting to use your business.

Maybe it's something for you to (no not as the case may be) think about when you do reply?

I just couldn't be bothered arguing with you any more. Those that usually say things along the lines of "I'd never use your business after that sort of reply/attitude" are usually the ones who don't (and wouldn't) use it anyway.

Someone might say the same thing just for me saying that DACs make a difference. I've seen such "threats" mentioned for far more trivial things.

Quite frankly that kind of reply is a bit staggering, not only for the fact that you haven't bothered to check who you were replying to, (i'll give you a clue, it wans't me that you were arguing with - I really hope you don't treat your customers like that!) that you would be willing to say such things on a messageboard that's indexed, so if people are looking to buy from you, they might do a quick google search to see if anybody has anything to say, and low and behold it will come up with stuff like this. It's not people like me you should be worried about, it's all the other people who you aren't getting, who you will never know about because they've decided not to buy from you based on your attitude on here. They won't reply, they won't tell you, you'll just never see their cash.

I certainly don't treat customers like that, as those who know me will testify.

so why represent yourself and business so badly on here then? Like I said, you post here as a business, not a faceless individual and you would do well to be mindful of that imho.

I just dislike the way forum members on here are being spoken to by certain individuals, negatively labelling them, which is only going to drive people away. It wouldn't be so bad if this was because of solid facts, but it is usually because of opinions, and if they don't match someone's own opinion, then everyone else is wrong. The abuse of the power of suggestion with regards to individuals and organisations is also being milked, in my opinion.

Anyway, this is all off topic.

off topic it maybe, but I would say to you as somebody who runs a business, either stay away from those things that irk you to a personal level, or maybe create a seperate account that you can respond to those things. You talk about driving people away, yet I've just told you that your conduct on this board has already driven me away from wanting to purchase from you - kind of ironic don't you think? Is a bit of tit for tat on an internet message board really worth losing business over?

Obviously imho of course, but I'm just trying to offer some friendly advice from my side of the fence as it were. Please don't take it as an example of what you have just said.

Can't vouch for whether or how well it works, and what DACs it is and isn't compatible with. Just something I've come across in a few places.

Many thanks for that information... that's my question answered then.
