I didnt know about 勉強 although it looks like the characters differ slightly. Then again, even in Chinese they differ between China (simplified versions) and Taiwan (traditional forms), if I recall correctly.

Yes 強 is in traditional form. To me, simplified Chinese and traditional Chinese are basically the same. I can read both but it's hard for me to write some of the traditional Chinese characters as they are much more complex @_@
