Do Streaming transport make better sense?

What's your reaction to the T8, just curious 🙂

Three months in and firstly the APP is brilliant and probably the best in the industry and secondly the T8 simply injects additional depth, weight, power, punch, fluidity and an overall naturalness that makes it so easy and enjoyable to listen to regardless and genre and the quality of recording. 🙂

Btw, as I write this the T8 and the new DAC-Z10 are rocking out. They look and sound the business 😎

Oh bril' thanks for your heads up. Lachlan on Passion for Sound will shortly be reviewing the Z10 🙂

I have Eversolo DAC Z8 feeding into my Gustard H26 Class A fully balanced dual power supply headamp, is absolutely superb. Some time in the future, if the reviews sway me away from the Denafrips R2R, I may just upgrade to the Z10. The T8 transport I may also consider in the near future. 🙂

You're welcome 👍 DAC-Z8 is excellent.

Cambridge has a new Streaming DAC, below is possibly the first written review.
Not sure WHF reviewed this already, as it's a Cambridge product, one can expect the usual five star commendations from the boys and girls at WHF.
Apologies I'm just being a little facetious 😌

If I were to start from scratch, I think my approach would be different. I think there's no point having a separate DAC if you're thinking of purchasing Streaming DAC and if you already have a standalone DAC, why would you need a Streaming DAC? Surely a Streaming Transport would suffice?

They're aren't many Streaming Transport that doesn't cost you an arm and a leg, the Eversolo T8 looks mighty fine but isn't cheap.
If only WiiM would bring out their Streaming transport, this would open up a lot of possibilities.

I'd likely have it matched up with a high quality DAC possibly Denafrips Ares or one of the better ESS DACs.

There is so much overlapping in HiFi, there's amplifiers with integrated DACs, Streaming DACs and separate DACs. Headless chickens running into each other.

I think less of the premium Streaming DACs. I would like to see cheap and affordable Streaming Transport being released by major manufacturers.
Get rid of the unnecessary luggage, the built in DAC and focus on, designing a free from circuitry noise half decent Streaming Transport.

What are your thoughts?

Sorry for the potentially philistine question but - can't you use a Wiim as a transport anyway, just plugged into a DAC?

You can absolutely, that should give you a better sound if it is running through a better quality DAC.
Streaming transports is likely to offer better components, better isolation from noise interference, better clock but is the extra outlay worth it? I suppose it depends on how big is the sound improvement?
Also aesthetics and user interface experience can be factored in also.

Yeah I see that. And the Wiim doesn't offer much in terms of interface at the very least.

Totally agree with this, I've had a T8 for a couple of months now and very impressed by it. the App is very good and Qobuz Connect works very well.

Mine is currently playing through the DAC in my Primare

I'm a peasant I only have the Z8 DAC, maybe in a few years when Eversolo has the Z12 (it seems to jump 2), the prices will drop down to a sensible level or maybe find a used bargain.

I was looking at Denafrips Pontus II 12th or Gustard R 26 R2R for that organic sound but the Z10 has the velvety warmness as well as copious amount detail

Caveat - based on the number of reviews, independent listening may deliver entirely different outcomes.

The Z10 looks to be the better balanced DAC than the R2R alternatives. That's something for the near future.

How's the crypto farming going Ivan?
You need to sell your house.
Ok, maybe not in the near future.
