Hi all,

Setting up my first turntable system. Thinking of getting a rega rp1, rega fono mini a2d, q acoustics 2020i.

Do i also need an amplifier for this, or can i run straight into the speakers? Reading here http://turntablelab.com/pages/beginners-guide-to-turntables

it will work as long as the speakers are active/powered, just not sure if that's as obvious as it sounds?

Thanks,

Sam

the link i posted seems to be saying if the speakers are active/powered i won't need an amp as such, is this not true?

It's true, but a lot of active speakers don't have any means of controlling volume, or switching between sources, in which case you will need a pre-amp (or a cheap integrated amp with 'pre-out' connections) and a phono pre-amp (unless you buy a turntable with one already built-in).

Thanks all.

So the Q Acoustics 2020i are not powered/active speakers?

Looks like i'll need to start looking for an amp then. Budget was about £600 for the whole system really, which leaves me around £200 for the amp. Any ideas?

If you choose an amp with a phono stage (there are plenty around) you won't need to buy the Fono mini.

Thinking of rega rp1 > ra-04se amplifier > q acoustics 2020i at the moment, any ideas?
