Newcomer to forum - need some home cinema help please. Just about to purchase Pioneer PDP 428XD and planning to build a home cinema system - but in stages. Initially planning on SKY HD with Samsung DVD HD870 (as a stop-gap until Blu-Ray / HDD issue is resolved - then an upgrade). Would like the convenience of the Yamaha YSP 1100 soundbar but don't know whether I need to budget for an AV receiver for this set-up, or whether a separate sub would be an essential. Don't really need the system to cater for music as I have an audio set-up I'm happy with (Arcam CD192, Rotel RA05 and Epos M12.2 speakers). Any advice or suggestions greatly appreciated. Thanks. Dougie

Hi Dougie,

the Yamaha YSP1000 includes amplification for all its drivers - so you don't need an AV amp - but a subwoofer is definitely worth considering. Try it with and without when you audition to see what you think - you can always add the sub at a later date.

Are there any reviews of the yamaha subs?

I'm looking to get a YSP-1100 and am wondering about the sub.
