digital optical from 3.5mm headphone jack

I have a sony vgn-fw51mf laptop I'm not sure whether the headphone output is a digital out as well. I have phoned my local sony center they did not seem to know. what's the easiest way of finding out without buying the cables.

Probably by looking on the Sony website. Neither the manual or the specifications mention any optical out.

Simply right click on the speaker icon in the task bar (bottom right) and select 'Playback Devices'.

If it has Optical (or SPDIF) output it will be listed here.

It will also have the text s/pdif by the jack - mine does.
