Denon TU1800 DAB tuner as DAC?

I've recently noticed that my Denon tuner has an optical input on the back. In the handbook this is described as being 'for future services which may become available'.

I'm wondering whether this could be used for say an Apple Airport Express in order to use the internal DAC of the tuner and save me having to purchase a stand alone DAC.

Has anybody tried this???

No: was designed for future data services, and doesn't connect to the audio section of the tuner.
