I've currently got a mid range Sony DVD player feeding my Denon AVR2807 and Miller & Kriesel Xenon (LCR26 / KX-12) Speaker package.

My Hi-Fi dealer has suggested I upgrade to the Denon DVD2930 - but having just read the latest issue of WHF - my question is whether it is £350 better than the Marantz DV6001??

Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

Regards,

Mark.

I think the denon would have the better of the marantz, The marantz 7001 is much closer to the denon 2930 if not a wee bit better, although ive heard a few people complaining about the croma bug with the marantz (green edges on picture)

I think that Marantz DV6001 is closer to Denon DVD1930. Marantz DV7001 and Dennon DVD2930 are the same class. But Marantz DV7001 has much better sound by my mind. I tested both and for me is Marantz a definite winner.

It was really - can I get away with a "budget" machine or is it really worth paying more! I'll try the 2930 and the DV7001 - but any other suggestions welcome!

I demo'd the Marantz DV6001, Denon DVD2930 and Marantz DV7001 with my projector. The picture quality was slightly better (but sometimes noticeably depending on which scene) on the 2930 and DV7001 compared to the Dv6001. The sound quality (both films and CDs) was noticeably better (for me) on the DV7001 compared to the 2930 which was itself a step above the DV6001.

It depends on what you want. My wife and I listen to CDs as much as watch films so it was worth paying the extra for us. Try all three out (preferably with the TV/projector you will actually use) and see what you think looks/sounds best for the money.

There are two main differences between DV7001 and DV6001:
1. DV7001 has HDAM for analog outputs
2. Separate power supply for analog
(There are another differences as audio DAC, high grade audio components...). But if you don't want to take advantage of better analog outputs for SACD and DVD-Audio at max I think that DV6001 is a good choice for you.

And if you are looking for good and cheap DVD player try PIONEER DV-600AV.
