Hi

Im looking to upgrade my Blu-ray player and quite keen on the Denon DVD-2500 BT as I can get it for around £350. I was wandering how this compares to current players around the £350 mark maybe the recent award winner Cambridge Audio Azur 650BD?

Im not that interested in 3-D or long lists of features. I just want the best sound and best picture I can afford...

Any help or advice much appreciated 😀

Thanks!

It is certainly a very good machine, I have one myself.

The Denon 2011 universal player may beat it, but it is not out until maybe February 2011 and will be in the region of £699.00.

I may be biased but I wouls still by the 2500BT at the price you quoted.

I used to have a Denon 2500 BT. The quality of the image was first class and I have yet to see anything better BUT I still got rid of it because I couldnt cope with the start up time. It seriously took ages. It was so bad I sold it on ebay about 6 months after purchase. If that doesnt worry you get it you wont be disappointed

Thanks for all the advice so far. Lots of people seem to like the 2500 BT.

How bad was the loading time???! The BDP-S350 I have now was supposed to be relatively fast when I bought it but I've never been that impressed.

Im am leaning towards the 2500 BT... I see it as my modern day Sony DVP-S7700.. That DVD player has done me proud over the years and I'm keen to make another long term purchase!

The Denon 2500BT will be slower to load than Sony S350. I would seriously recommend a demo to compare the Denon 2500BT (which is 2 generations old & profile 1.0) with the newer players to compare the picture & audio quality.

This thread will be useful, just to show how opinions can vary between different users (check Pete321's comments).

Sounds like I need to try and find somebody that still has a demo machine!

I know things should have moved on in the last 2 years, but the real question is whether a new machine today @£350 offers you what a £800 machine did way back when 😉 Sounds like its a bit of a difficult question to answer. Lots of swings and round-a-bouts!

The load times arent that bad, you would have to be a very impatient person to sell the player for load times alone. I had the player for 18 months, picture and sound were stunning didnt think I could beat it, well that is until the Arcam BDP100 came along and to my eyes is the best picture I have ever seen.

Not totally relevant but I had a Marantz DV4100 which was a more premium player at about £400 in 2001, and very well regarded.

It went wrong a couple of years ago and I replaced with a Toshiba XDE 500 at £100.

I'd say that the Toshiba overall is better. The detail, the sound, and obviously it has the new features available. I sometimes fancy the Marantz may have had slightly lusher colours but it may just be rose-coloured memories.

The Toshiba beneffitted from the fact that DVD technology was very well progressed and cheap 7 years after the Marantz's release, getitng pretty much everything from the format.

I feel the latest cheaper BluRay players also seem to have potentially hit this point recently, so while it's only a couple of years, I'd definitely say compare the Denon to the recent batch of players.
