Hello there. I am thinking of combining a Denon DVD-2500BT Blu-ray player with an Arcam Solo Movie 2.1, but I don't know if this is possible considering the fact that the Denon only has an HDMI output and nowt else. Will the Arcam accept audio via one of it's HDMI inputs? And is the Denon capable of mixing a Dolby True HD or other high-def soundtrack to a format that is accepted by the Arcam? Also, if the Arcam does accept audio via HDMI, and the Denon does downmix high-def audio to Dolby Digital, will having the Denon connected to my display via the Arcam be at all detrimental to the quality of the video signal? ie will the Arcam pass through a full 1080/24p signal with no altering or downscaling?

Any help would as always be very much appreciated.

That's a really really odd combination. It doesn't make any sense. The Arcam is a nice CD player radio combo but you're combining one of the best DVD/Bluray players in the world with one of the most ordinary amplifier / cd combos.

You'd be better off at that price level with a seperate amp because the Denon 2500BT is quite capable of playing your CDs too. A decent AV amp will have a tuner as well. So look at the Denon 2808 that you can buy from Richer Sounds for £400 instead of it's usual £900 RRP. By all means just start with a pair of front speakers, but don't limit your system from the start by buying an Arcam Solo. It's a total waste of money in comparison with the alternatives available to you. Of course if you'd suggested a £150 DVD player I wouldn't say anything, but the Denon 2500BT demands you partner it with kit that can at the very least decode the signal it puts out! The Arcam can't so you'd have a silent system!

I actually meant the Arcam Solo Movie 2.1. Does the Arcam accept sound via HDMI? And does the Denon output a sound format that is compatible with the Arcam Solo Movie?

Even though you meant the Solo Movie 2.1, it remains an utter mis-match.

The Denon is a Blu-ray transport, expressly designed to work with a fully loaded AV receiver that offers all the HD decoding modes and much more. It does no decoding itself - just sends the signal through to a suitably equipped receiver (which the Arcam is not).

It's also an exceptional DVD player - it'd probably take the Arcam for DVD replay, which makes that part of the otherwise superb Solo system redundant.

Time to think again, methinks... Sorry!
