can anyone tell me if this dvd player is worth getting with this sony lcd. I know the denon 1940 will upscale normal dvd's to 1080p, but will the sony play at this quality.

many thanks.

Your 26 inch won't play 1080p. I have a Sony 20inch screen and I use the new upscaling DVD player from Sony (I can't remember the model). It cost me £49.99 from Amazon and is excellent. I have the Denon for my bigger screen.

It'll work with both of them, but neither of them will display 1080p as neither are Full HD sets. If the Denon is set to output at 1080p though, the TV will downscale it to fit your screen and then display the picture.

If your screen, as the professor says, cannot deliver true HD (1080p) then it's not really worth spending out on a really good DVD player in my book that can deliver 1080p. However, you don't get many top upscaling players that only do 720p! My advice would to be to go for a cheaper upscaler so although you still wouldn't be getting all of it's talent, you are not paying through the nose for it. My second player which is very good is this one http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sony-DVPNS78-Player-Upscaling-Silver/dp/B000TJFSZO Ironically, I paid £49.99 for it before Christmas from Amazon and they are now selling it at £67.50! I'm sure can find it cheaper but it's very good.

I've heard nothing but excellent reports - good choice. It will get the best out of your screen. The only reason I went for the Sony is the price and the fact that my 20inch screen was a Bravia.
