Hi,

Anyone have any experience with these? the reviews all seem good. I've been looking for something with internal storage and a nice screen. As far as I can find this is about the only option at the price, but after you add a 2TB SSD it's £1000.

Anybody know of any alternatives I should check out?

I found it sounding a bit 'thin', and ultimately a little uninvolving. Might suit the right system, but I don't think it's a product for everyone. The Bluesound Node X sounded better, but that's now discontinued and the Icon is their latest and greatest, and should sound better than the X.

You'll be limited for storage and a nice screen, especially at this price point - the more features on board, the more it eats into the budget, and less the money will have gone into pure sound quality.

If you're talking about the A6 one can insert a SSD drive - so it's not really limited for storage.

If you're talking about sound quality of the Icon - well it's a fully balanced design, and I don't see how you come to that conclusion.

I meant limited finding options with storage.

And I came to that conclusion by listening to it - design/build etc wasn't taken into account.

I've watched a few reviews on eversolo products thin and brighter sound is mentioned on a few of them that's including there new amplifier that matches the A10.

The new F10 amp yes, surprising considering it's AB and not Class D like the lesser one.

From what I glean, and with the latest firmware updates, I believe you can tailor the sound just as you want.

I agree. I think the Eversolo is too good and lacks character. I always compare it with Japanese whisky. The way they produce it is perfect and superior to how many Scottish and Irish distiillery make whisk(e)y. But because it's too perfect it lacks what the good Scottish & Irish have.

I've never actually had any Japanese whiskey before, but I know what you mean.

Like many of these Chinese companies (see the ASR list) I feel they've focused so much on producing a product with a stupidly low distortion figure (how low can we detect?) that they've forgotten or ignored everything else. If you look at iconic (and extremely popular) hi-fi components over the decades, how many of them actually measured that well? How many of them produce a flat frequency response?

Hopefully they've added eArc/Arc so we don't have to stump up 2k for the privilege.

I've just bought one. I went through the mill before finally deciding on it. I wouldn't put much stock in the opinion of someone who says that he finds it "a bit thin". The only thing I have found that sounds better than this is the Audiolab 6000N which unfortunately should be avoided because of its truly heinous application. All of the Cambridge offerings up to and including the CXN 100 are truly joyless pieces of hardware. I lost my will to listen to music auditioning them. If someone tells you that it sound "a bit thin" then that's down to their amp and speaker set up. Nothing for the money touches the Dmp-a6. The only caveat is rumour has it the gen 2 version is coming soon. If the gen 2 wasn't rumoured to be coming I would recommend buying the Eversolo now.

It is a good piece of kit and certainly has a better DAC , (2x dac chips), than most reviewer given it credit for. I have had it for a day now.
Sound wise: it sounds no better or worse than my arcam irdac, which suits me, I bought it for convenience more than for sound improvement.
It offers a lot of connectivity options.
6 inch screen is very good and responsive.
Couple of issues I have encountered so far:
A) Control/cast app on my iphone does something disconnect, and I would have to close the app and relaunch. Apple Music is very laggy on the ES app.
B) when I listen to my station on Apple Music, some tracks seem to finish rather abruptly with a 2/3 remaining and next song starts without any gap, which is quite annoying.
Now,having said all that. If I was paying £800 for a streamer/dac, I don’t think it would be unfair or unrealistic to expect a degree of sound improvement compared to irdac. Thankfully, I bought open box and got 25% discount. Had I paid the full price I probably would’ve returned it.

For Apple Music what you should be using is the 'mirroring app' supplied instead of Eversolo's proper app. The mirror app does exactly that - mirrors the unit display and control. And that way you're doing native streaming aka 'connect'.

This is getting a bit silly now. Sadly, Eversolo are now doing what many other companies are doing and adding more devices to confuse people even more. The DMP-A6 is still available in its original version, but now has a gen 2 version to be available very soon. Then there's the DMP-A6 Master Edition to consider. Will they sell any gen 2 DMP-A6 units, when many potential buyers will be hoping to see a DMP-A6 Master Edition gen 2 to arrive soon? There's still the DMP-A8 on sale and will there be a gen 2 release of this model? The flagship DMP-A10 has just been released, along with the matching AMP-F10 and the model ranges are getting a bit complicated now, much like Cyrus and Audiolab model ranges. Too much choice I think. I would like models to be replaced when sales begin to fall. If you're selling loads, you don't need to keep updating the devices. There will be many out there waiting to see what else gets updated. I think this is a bad decision having 5 streamers to choose from and I think sales will stall as people wait for a possible gen 2 of the other models.

You're as well off buying an external dac and keeping your standard edition. Plenty of reasonably priced options .. then again .. you could also just call a halt to the never ending search for that tiny piece of detail and separation we're all on. When is good enough good enough ..

I see what you mean.I am using the mirroring app. I open the ES app then go on to the casting tab and my phone works as a mirror. And this is where I am getting the issues I had mentioned earlier.

He's not the only person to report that coupled with "bright", there are mutiple reports both by reviewers and owners in forums
If that's a sound you like as everyone's "ear" is different then brilliant .... it wouldn't be my choice though.
