Will the denon 1930 dvd player always judder when the picture is set to 1080 - if so why have it?

It judders on my samsung le40m87bdx. I phoned samsung and they wasnt surprised that it did and said not to worry - just set it to 720!

Defeats the object really or does anyone have any comments or suggestions?

hi

i have the 1920 denon and have just purchased the same tv as you. i have the same problem. when i set the output to 1080 the picture shakes/judders.

have not found any cure yet. thought about getting the new 1940 player but not sure if this would make any difference.

i have always been under welmed by the denon considering the awards its won.

let me know if any body can cure this fault

Sounds like a conflict between the scaling on the player and that on the TV. Anyone had this problem with other brands of TV? Or any feedback from Denon on this?

Okay can we look to work around it ie if the denon is happy to scale it to 720p will the tv do a good job of converting it upto 1080p? Or, is it always best, if possible, to set the denon to 1080 and let the tv just accept the signal.

This is the first full HD tv and 1080 (upscaler) Dvd player I have purchased.

I bought these on what-hifi recommendations and was hoping for a good marriage between the two, ahhhhh

Thanks

I found this quote off the net:

1080p Out - What About 1080p In?
An HDTV set that claims 1080p resolution displays 1080p resolution, but does not necessarily accept it as input. The TV can upconvert lower-resolution signals to 1080p; however, it may not be able to accept incoming 1080p signals from high-resolution sources, such as an HD DVD or Blu-ray player

Does this apply to our samsung le40m87bdx?

Matt you would be better of setting your denon to 1080i (native res of panal) and then let your tv de interlace the picture or you could try 576i output and let the tv upscail itself, setting it to 720p imo isnt a good idea as the picture is then being scailed twice!

Can anyone confirm what garethwd is saying please?

Anyway, the denon set at 1080i will also judder the tv the same as 1080p

Furthermore, there are no other interlaced settings on the denon the rest are progressive via the hdmi cable.

id run it 576i then if it judders 1080i. as your panel will always display 1080p what ever source you feed it!

Thank you for your information I appreciate it but, I have purchased a 1080p dvd upscaler and a full high definition tv and I expect to show the best picture possible i.e denon at 1080p and the samsung accepting it otherwise I wouldnt have bought the tv. My denon only outputs interlaced in 1080 form and at 1080i it judders!

Regards, Matt

Try selecting the "just scan" in picture setting/screen size in the tv's menu, then give 1080p another whirl
