Hi all, no posts for months then 3 in a week, after substantial help from Professorhat and JD i have linked an AE to my laptop and Stereo and am using Spotify to stream direct, i was wondering if i could insert an external Dac and further improve on what i feel is already a good sound.

My current amp set up is

Cyrus prex vs and x-power.

Is this possible? Any suggestions(new or second hand- £200-£500) and finally how do you connect this lot to each other?

Thanks Sean.

In that price bracket I'd go for a DACMagic (and indeed did). Run an optical cable with a mini-Toslink adapter from the headphone socket of the Airport Express into an optical in on the DM, then standard stereo interconnects to the Cyrus. S'what I do (or did until I upgraded from Airport Express to Apple TV).

I must have missed that one, JD.

Can I ask you what were your reasons for going from AE to Apple TV? I'm guessing they were for the non-audio functions?

Regards streaming audio how does Apple TV compare to AE?

I am curious oranj . . .

Cheers.

partly the video capability, partly the ability to store music content locally and take the wireless networking out of the mix. I'd toyed with it for a while but a mention of atvflash's capabilities in another thread made my curiosity insatiable. Turned out to be not all that, as discussed in a thread elsewhere also - I'd post a link but am ipodding this and it's a bit of a faff - should be easy to find

and lastly, haven't compared the two side by side but intuitively I think content stored on the @tv sounds better than ae streaming. Could be my imagination though.
