Well like the topic heading says, match made in heaven or hell ?

Anyone here tested an average Cyrus system with the lower rank PMC speakers like the DB1i ?

I am especially interested in how bright the two sound together. Irritating brightness or do the PMC smooth out the Cyrus top end. I have Dali silk dome speakers at the moment which do a great job of smoothing the Cyrus but there not great at much else...

Have FB1i with my Cyrus set-up and love the sound. The PMCs allow the Cyrus to offer up some good controlled bass and also keep the top end singing. Heaven to my ears.

Although not heard the combo myself, one of my closest retailers, Unilet tested the Cyrus with PMC and stated it sounded really top-notch. I've tested DB1is with Arcam and Leema and I've no doubt about the claim - PMC seem to make any system sound good.

I used DB1i with 6XP amp (dealer said it would drive them), it certainly wasn't too bright but simply didn't have enough under the hood to let them show what they are capable of. X Power was better (but then, of course).

You can take what Gusboll says as a good yardstick - the 6vs and 8vs amplifiers were brighter and leaner sounding than the current 6xp and 8xp, so if they're not bright with them, they'll be fine with the newer ones, Of course, this is all personal preference, so best to have a listen if you can. The PMC's have enough bass/warmth to be used with a leaner sounding amp and not sound cold and lifeless.

As you can see from my sig, i am running a Cyrus 7 with PSXR with the DB1i's.

Definitely not bright, but very controlled, accurate top end and mids with a solid bass.

I agree that it's a very very good match and will be either looking to upgrade again to a Cyrus integrated or adding a Cyrus power in future as they do seem to gel with the PMC's IMO
