We purchased a Lyric 9 and Bowers and Wilkins CM8s - these replace the much loved Arcam/Cyrus separates and much loved Castle Howard speakers. It has all been quite an investment (!) with the Sonos stuff alone being around £650. Understand the Sonos is good kit but we really like the ease of control of the Lyric via the Cadence app etc. any recommendations to swop the Sonos kit for some other wireless speaker would be welcome.

A possible alternative to the Sonos is an Audiopro.com product, Living LV2e. It is an active wireless speaker which comes with its own separate transmitter dongle which pugs into the Lyric line outs. More details from their web site, What Hifi review searech or Amazon.

That's the point I've made twice now, if all you want to do is mirror the Lyric output on the Play:5 then you would only need to use the Sonos controller ONCE in order to configure the line-in autoplay on the Play:5, after that you can ignore it and just use the Lyric app, assuming you don't put the Play:5 somewhere you can't reach the volume control on the unit.

That looks like a very nice solution. The 'dongle' connects via a phono to mini jack cable and broadcasts direct to the speakers which have there own remote for volume. Very neat and uncomplicated, no network connections to worry about. One 'dongle' can service up to three pairs of speakers, more than enough in this case.

The big advantage is that it simply works as an add on to the Lyric, whatever is on the Lyric is on the extensions, independent volume control, very simple to set up and use. Various finishes from about £500 for speaker, remote and dongle.

Well I am very delighted to say that we are finally sorted. Using the original kit with a bit of tinkering, all is well. Thank you all so much for your help :) :)
