Any advice is very much appreciated.

I am usng Cyrus CD-T and 6Xpd. I managed to get a pair of preused KEF 205/2 speakers and need to upgrade my amplifier. I have the following options:

1. add a pair of X200, and bi-amp, tri-wire the speaker

2. add a pair of Power X and tri-amp the speaker

3. add a pair of X200 and bi-wire the speaker, using the 6Xpd as the preamp only.

I really hope to keep my current Cyrus components, and X300 is out of my budget.

Many thanks for your help.

FWIW. My advice (as a 205/2 owner), is to make sure that you definitely want to go down the Cyrus + 205/2 route before investing further. You can do this by hearing them on the end of Electrocompaniet, Bryston or even an Arcam A49 (or C49/P49).

If you still prefer the Cyrus, you can then buy with confidence. It is a decision that is not worth rushing, or doing what is most convenient...which "could" be costlier in the long run.

My "opinion" is that those model Refs need a little warmth in the amp.....the R Series (and apparently New Refs) are sweeter and imo match Cyrus better.

I ran an 8xpdQX on a pre-out into two X-power in mono but bi-wired. Worked a treat.

I've since upgraded the amp to a DAC XP Signature but only run that into one X Power and still bi-wired.

The 8xpdQX is in another system and now runs as a pre-out into the second X Power biwired and it still works a treat.

I've also tried it bi-amped by running the highs from the integrated amp and the lows from the X Power via the pre-out from the integrated amp. Sounded the same as when running the speakers from the X Power only.

Do you tri-wire your 205/2?

Yes, but I don't think it's worth worrying about - though I would replace the links with decent cable (though some disagree)....it was cheaper for me to tri-wire, than it was to buy decent links.
