Question Cyrus CDi-XR anyone?

I think I made a mistake when I bought a Rotel CD11 Mk2 player last year. Having listened to it for many months now I'm finding the sound a bit harsh and 'brittle'. Maybe it's my old ears getting a bit intolerant but I really prefer a warmer sound. I quite fancy the Cyrus CD player but before I go to look & listen, I was just wondering if anyone here has one or has compared one to others at a similar price. Or can anyone just recommend a current player with a warmer sound?

I've been listening to a Rotel RCD965 player for the last 30 years and that still sounds wonderful to me but I'm trying to set up a separate system in another room, hence the second player (and hence my blind allegiance to Rotel!).

Thanks.

If you fancy playing with DACs - it’s not my thing usually - then look at the Fiio R2R models which might be cheaper than trading out your Rotel for the Cyrus. In any event, Cyrus isn’t exactly renowned for sounding rich and smooth, so definitely audition before committing.

Not reviewed here yet, but you can Google lots of opinions:-

Wow @nopiano - thankyou so much for that. You know I never even considered that option, having always been an 'integrated' type of guy (bit old school really!). But having read the blurb this really could give me a whole load of options and save me rather a lot of money. Thanks again 👍

The Mojo 2 - either the £249 run out version or the brand new £349 one - would be a great place to start. I have the Cyrus i9 XR amp and I prefer the sound of the Mojo feeding it compared to using the amp’s own DAC (allegedly identical to that in the CDi-XR), so you might save a whole lot of cash considering that route.
