Having recently got my deck, for the first time tonight I have compared CD against album and the deck is in another league all together.

I don't want to turn this into a vinyl verses CD thing but the difference is huge and it sounds like the CD player is deadening the music across the spectrum, so much so that I think I might have a faulty CDP. I have got a budget Denon DL 110 cartridge on the deck. I am not talking subtle differences or some esoteric barely audible frequencies here the difference is very significant.

Has anybody with a Cyrus CD6SE had poor/degraded sound quality from their machine? I am aware of disc reading faults, but has anybody experienced something similar?

Hi , I'm glad you came up with this post ; because , coincidentally I ' m considering on reliving my youth and will purchase a TT . A Rega P3 24 or a Clearaudio Emotion Se / Performance . By coincidentally I meant that I was viewing a segment on You Tube and the comparison of cds vs. records . Of course the consensus was vinyl over cd and I don't have a problem with that , in fact I do somewhat agree . Even if I haven't owned a TT since 1985 . In the video they compared records that I once had to cd copies in which I also have . There right , as I bare witness , these cds sounded awful but ; that's the fault of the producers of the cds . There are a lot of cds out there that are gems . With the right gear cds can be an enjoyable listen and vinyl is not an end all to other sources . I do recall Led Zepplen's Cashmere on Physical Graffiti sounded aweful on record , though . So that is one strike . 🙂 I wish I never unloaded all my records back in the mid 80's But I managed to save some . The reason I switched over to cd was that it had so much promise .

Sorry for hi jacking the post .

No problem Canuck.

The difference is so great between the cyrus and deck that after another listen in the cold light of day tmw, I will decide whether to send the CD6SE back under warranty. It is temperamental when reading some Cds but the direct comparison with my 1980s record collection was an eye opener and very disappointing.

Yes have it checked out . I guess cd players can be a finicky listen and some people prefer late nite listening for best results .

There wasn't a huge difference between my LP12/Ittok and the CD6SE. There was obviously a different presentation, and on balance the Cyrus was certainly more accurate, if less pleasurable.

I have a CD6SE and haven't had any problems, but ... I wouldn't buy another CDP given the future is digital streaming.... if you can return it, I would suggest getting a good external DAC instead! Then you can start listening to hi-def files and I think you might be pleasantly surprised at 24/96 or 24/192 well recorded music - IMHO there is both detail and warmth without the "digital sound".

Just my 2 cents
