hi all, cuurrently using cyrus cdi, 8a amp, psx-r, with kef 100s,(sound is superb) heres my confusion, the cdi has a 32 bit dac inside, cyrus recommend that it is connected to a 8 2dac amp which has a 24bit dac, how would this upgrade my sound if it is a lower spec dac than that of the cd?, would both dac be used in the processing of the sound or does one overide the other, and as the dac is £1500 approx really could use some advice from the troops before i make a financial gaff. cheers all

Don't think it's much of an upgrade really. More a sidegrade or possibly a downgrade. The cdi is supposed to be the follow-up of the cd6 and cd8.
Odd advice.
I say this as an owner of an xdac...
You say you are happy with what you have, so why change? As always, if you really really need to change and get good return on investment try a different speaker in your own listening room. Preferably from the same make you already have and like.

If it was my system, I'd be looking to add in a dedicated pre-amplifier and using the 8a as a power amplifier, with a longer term view of changing it at a later date for a dedicated power amplifier. Which pre-amp would depend on how big a quality jump I'd want to make. A used DACxp (some around at the moment with people upgrading to Signature models) might be a tad overkill in this system as it stands, but negates the need to improve the CD player (unless you want a dedicated digital transport). One of Cyrus' best products.

+1 on the DAC-XP but I would add a used X-Power or the new Class D power amp (can't remember the name right now) at the same time, using the moolah I got from selling my existing kit to help fund the upgrades.
