Hmm yes. It’s sad. They’ve been left behind and are now having to throw their lot in with the more traditional mob. Slightly drunk post but with a modicum of clarity!

£2,500 for an external supply was excessive (a third of that price is excessive).

You can be sure the full width products will sound good - potential customers know they will cost a lot.
But what they won't want to be told any more, is that they can be improved by adding a 'better', external supply.

That didn’t stop Naim! I’m sure you can add PS to their wider boxes.

Conversely Linn seemed to be unsure what size to be, and many of their items are around 3/4 or 7/8 width like my Akurate. It looks great but doesn’t match anything else, which might be the point!

Hard to imagine many current amps lasting so long.

There are plenty of original NAD 3020s still going, for example.
Some people never feel the need for change - and good luck to them.

Yeah, Cyrus has finally wakened up to the fact that customers think of their external power supplies as a scam

So they've entered the real world. But they will charge an arm and a leg for that acknowledgement. How sweet.

They do look gorgeous though.

And technically external PSU's are also not the best option. You always need extra cables and connectors which means extra losses.

Some people never feel the need for change - and good luck to them.

And don't forget that these amps don't use special components. All standard transistors (or at least equivalents are available), resistors, capacitors, etc. No microcontrollers, proprietary displays, software, etc. You don't even need a BSc in Electronics to repair these amps. Basic knowlegde of analog electronics is sufficient. So technically it can last a lifetime.

I'm excited with the new full-width development, and everything I've seen so far suggests these new 80 units will sit alongside the 40 half-width boxes - I'm very happy with the small form factor (fewer family arguments, for sure, with my XR boxes on a dedicated HiFi Racks oak rack) but the full-width boxes will give Cyrus double the room for interesting innovation. Like @Gray I hope that means incorporated PSUs.

Future commitment to the half-width seems clear with the new 40 PPA phono stage (still no XLR balanced in?), and I sure as hell hope this means the Classic phono stage falls in price as a consequence! Since owning the 8vs2 (with PSX-R) and using for over a decade, and now i9-XR, I've never had an over-heating issue: obviously not playing Led Zeppelin 2 loud enough ...

Not many phono stages have balanced XLR inputs as not really required since most decks don't come with XLR terminated cables.....

True, but I've just bought a new Pro-Ject Xtension 9 turntable with XLR out - that's a company that has placed a big bet on balanced XLR, and you get a nice mini-XLR cable with it: the freebie is mini-XLR to 2 x phono RCA but the upgrade Pro-Ject Connect It Phono 5P DS to XLR can be had for less than £200. Before I saw the impending release of the 40 PPA, I went for a Pro-Ject Phono Box RS which does have XLR in and out.

Those Projects were designed to work solely with certain project phono preamps and moving coil cartridges.
So just buy a balanced Project phono preamp and your sorted
