Just a warning to anyone thinking of using the reserve and collect service offered by Currys website. I reserved and PAID for a TV using this method but when I went to collect discovered that it had already been sold to someone else. I was not offered a replacement, an alternative or even a refund of the cost of a wasted journey. Staff were entirely unhelpful and appeared not to be in the oleast concerned - they won't see any of my money again!

I really detest some of these high street / retail park stores. I find their staff often lack knowledge of the product, their prices are uncompetitive and, as exampled here, the service is poor to say the least.

I sometimes get the impression that the people buying from them are unaware that other dealers exist and that because they are a high street name with big tv and press adverts, they must be the best in their field.

Have to admit that due to logistical problems we bought a review product the other week from Currys using the reserve and collect service - we didn't pay upfront, but when we got to the store.

Didn't stop us going through 15 mins of:

Me That's the wrong one

Them No it isn't

Me Yes it is

Them Are you sure?

Me Yes i am

Them Well it's the only one we have so it must be the one you ordered

Me No it's wrong, can you check?

Them No it's the only one we have

Me Look it's really not the one I want

Them It's the only one we stock

Me Well it's not the one I ordered on the website - look, here's the model number on the confirmation I printed out and on the receipt you just gave me after you tried to sell me an extended warranty, please have another look

...Before I got the right product. Ridiculous thing is, the one they were trying to palm me off with was much more expensive than the one we'd ordered online, and I'd just paid for.

Makes the role of the specialist independant dealer all the more important. You tend to get a much better service off these guys although reading some recent threads it would appear that John Lewis seem very good. Sounds like Currys share staff with Argos cos i have had the same sort of experience in there.

If you are going to use Currys, you might as well use Dixons on line, as they are much cheeper, and are the same company, DSGI. Not sure if you can pick up from Dixons though, although they will delver within 5 days.

I've done the reserve and collect thing from Currys a couple of times, especially as the few quid back by going via Quidco has been worthwhile.

I ordered a 32" LCD a while back but the missus (correctly) talked me out if it. I got a call the next day asking if I was going in for it as I'd reserved the only one left in the shop and they had a buyer wanting it.

I told them to let him have it, which they did, but as it was reserved in my name, I still got the £15 Quidco :)

Dixons are online only. There isn't a store you can pick up from.

Hi,

I used the 'reserve & collect' at PC World and had to travel approx. 30 miles to pick up my order (a Samsung monitor) but when I got there the sales staff discovered they didn't actually have that model in stock. After 10 minutes of searching and checking their system, they came to the conclusion that they should have one in stock but it appeared someone may have stolen it. I got the next model up for the same price as the one I had reserved. This was a saving of around £50 for me which was of course acceptable.

Cheers,

Cofnchtr.
