Just a little background if i may....Hi there i am new to the forum as i have recently renewed my enthusiasm for hifi after moving house.
I am 54 currently but when i started my A-levels way back in 1986 i spent the summer working for a bank doing a sudent job. As i didn't drink, smoke or drive i didnt know what to do with the money. Ended up in the Studio of Norman H.Fields hifi shop in Birmingham begging him to take my money. He heard me, and olbliged. My mother passed a while back and i went to retrieve my seperates that have been in her attic since 1989. I am a bit miffed and confused as to where my other seperates went to from the attic. Sony CD player, Yamaha EQ, Denon tape deck and a random tuner (i forget which) all missing, leaving me my Dual turntable 505-2 and NAD amp. I always have had my Tannoy speakers with me and they have been part of my TV home entertainment centre since i had my first NICAM stereo VHS Player in 1987, long gone now, but the Tannoy's prevail.

So looking at this Dual turntable both belts have perished in the 36 years, and i have found a supplier for those. I remember it going into the attic after the stylus broke. Looking at this thing after a wipe, its in mint condition, the rosewood version. The lid has a small crack and is ish, but, that can be replaced if im going to be anal about it. The stylus albeit without its needle is still on the cartridge and is the DN 165E Dual version. I have seen a some conflicting information about what to get. Are there an options? or would you just replace it like for like?

I am quite excited actually, i have 100+ vinyll ablums and 12" records, some of which i care not to mention. The Nad amp works, my speakers are fine. Belts are on the way for the table. Just need to decide on the stylus.

Cheers everyone.

You might need to clean and replace the bearing oil as well while you are at it.
Only certain cartridges will be a good replacement on that Dual ultra low mass tonearm.
Look at the Ortofon OM range as that is basically what that Dual cartridge you have now actually is.
A complete OM5e is available for around £50 which is a good deal as many places seem to be asking £72 just for the stylus.
The Super OM5e is about £69 also for whole cartridge.

point taken about the lubrication. I will pay attention to that.
Thanks for the heads up on the Super OM5e, if it is an upgrade over the one for £50 at £69, for £19 its a no brainer.

£75.00 still in production
DN 165E Dual / Ortofon is a high compliance variant for Dual ULM ( ultra low mass tonearms )
Modern ortofon cartridges s have 25% lower compliance designed for higher mass tonearms

I just fell in love with it again when i saw it again after so long. In 1986 when i bought it only 2 other friends had seperates, the rest had those god damn awful midi hifi things. One friend had a an AR turntable, i was jealous of that, it was beautiful. Its such a shame Norman H Field is no longer there in B'ham City Centre though. They really looked after me that day, so its a tribute to them too. "Bring your favourite record" they said to me, so i did. I was in that studio for hours. sat in a very nice leather chair looking at 60 pairs of speakers all pointing at me. With an array of amps and turntables behind me and a guy with switching equiment able to provide all the different combinations was to me epic. I'll never forget that day. I was 16 in 1986 and spent £1100 on hifi equipent in their shop. They kept asking to make sure i was happy with the combinations before i paid. I was over the moon. They also gave me a lift home with the gear and helped me in with it. I never looked back. The clarity was great, the NAD amp still is epic and i wrote to Tannoy a few years back thanking them for Speakers that have lasted 35 years , now 39. Asked them if they could refurb them as the are scratched and looking a little tired. Tannoy just ignored me, never ever got a reply and i gave up on them, shame really.
