Just bought the sony as an ex demo from Richersounds for £129.

Now my denon is a few years old now but still going strong so going to keep it for a while.

I need to connect the sony using the 7.1 outputs. Ive just looked at the back of the denon and it has them but they are marked pre out, not input. Are these the right connections or will I not be able to connect the sony to the denon using the 7.1 pre outs?

No, the 7.1 preouts on the Denon are designed to send sound out to external amplification; you can't use them to connect the audio out from the Sony into the amp. You need to use the bank of sockets to the left of the rear panel of the Denon, viewing it from behind, marked 'EXT. IN'
