Hey guys

I recently purchased a Sony STR DG820 and am planning to connect my PC up to the amp via my Asus xonar DX soundcard via the spdif optical out. Now the DX features Dobly Digital live, does this mean that i will be able to get full 5.1 support when i play pc games?

Cheers Octopo!!!

I have just been reading lots of stuff on the net about Vista and it not being able to handle more than 2 channels of audio over optical outputs so basically all you get is stero in games.

Anyway if i understand this right the asus will convert the sound into dobly live on the fly and then it is passed to the amp to be decoded back into analoge and then passed to the speakers correct?

Are you waiting to buy the optical cable or have you just not tried it yet? You won't be able to get any HD soundtracks over optical by the way...

All i wana do is be able to play games such as HL2 and COD4 in proper 5.1. There is alot of people on the net that seam to think this will be hard to acceive, but i carn't see any problems, should work fine right?

Well, I don't have any experience at all with that card unlike others, who may have... though there is alot of rubbish floating around on the internet. I had a look at the manufacturers site and Vista is listed as the only compatible OS - though don't blame me if I'm wrong!

You already have the card and receiver so I guess you'll have to wait and see, let us know what happens!ÿ

Don't worry i won't blame you, just Asus for their less than perfect driver support.

I'll let you know what happens but it won't be until the end of april at the earlyist as i'm out of the contry.

Thanks for your reply's.
