Connecting external hard drive to sony tv usb input to view jpeg images

I use a maxtor 500gb external hard drive to archive my jpeg images (the drive is mains powered, not by usb) and i am wondering if i can view images stored on said drive via the usb input on my sony 40ex503 tv, just i do from usb memory sticks. The tv's on-screen manual directs you to the sony website to view a list of compatible devices but this hasn't been updated since 2007 and only lists sony cameras and memory devices so insn't very helpful.

Has anybody else tried this, is it possible? be grateful for any advice from the sony centre guys who post on here.

Just tried it with my USB drive and it doesn't want to play with an HFS+ or FAT32 partition. Can't try NTFS right now - how is your drive formatted?

Good point, will have to check that. Have a feeling my usb memory sticks I've used in it are FAT32 - Integral HDD's in your PC are normally NTFS.

Like I said in my initial post, advice from one of the Sony Centre posters on here who could give an expert answer would be appreciated.
