Connecting an external hard drive to Samsung LE40B550

I am aware that the Samsung LE40B550 can display picture on a USB stick by plugging it into the USB port on the TV, but can the TV also display pictures held on an external hard drive (160gb), also connected via the USB?

Don't know about the Samsung but I tried it with my Sony 40W4500 and that can't cope with a USB hard drive although it is quite happy to read off a USB stick.Plug your laptop in instead

Thanks. How about connecting a digital camera with a USB lead - would this work? Any thoughts?
