Hi there

I know nothing about subs!

I have a Sony TAFE570 amp with Tangent floorstanders (obviously have a CD player as well etc). I am looking at hooking my hi fi up to an LCD tv (probably a 32LG2000). This is no problem using the normal outputs/inputs.

I wondered if it was possible to add a sub onto the system? I assume my amp has not got a sub output and wondered whether this was still possible? Also if a passive or active sub was the answer?

Otherwise was looking at a 5.1 system but thought having both in the same room was a bit overkill and unneccessary.

Any help would be great!

Cheers - Roscoe

No, no subwoofer output on that amplifier. Your best bet is to use an active subwoofer able to accept a high-level (ie speaker level) input, and connect this in parallel with your main speaker cables using the amp's usual speaker outputs.

But I'd question whether you need a sub with those speakers, unless you have a huge room. The Tangent floorstanders are hardly bass-shy...

Thanks Andrew.

Fair point. I shall test with my floorstanders first before I spent any money!
