To get your iTunes streaming to your Marantz you should: >Open iTunes >Click on the Airplay icon (bottom right hand corner) >Select your Marantz from the menu >Double click on a track This should begin the streaming...

UPDATE

Have managed to get Marantz to find my laptop (so, it now recognises two computers in the house). trouble is, it now seems to want to randomly play tracks from a playlist that I have on Media Monkey on my laptop. Airfoil still can't find the Marantz. And itunes still doesn't have the Airplay symbol on the bottom task bar. It's all becoming depressingly messy.

ARRRRRRGH.....HELLLLLLLLLLLLP

Hmm. Since it's seeing MM playlists, it feels like it's on the same network. Is the Marantz wired on the network or wireless? Might be worth connecting wired to your router just to see if there's a wireless security problem somewhere...

John,

Yeh, the Marantz is connected to router via ethernet cable. I gave up on it all, again last night. Gonna have another crack at it after work, later today. How do I check that Airplay is still installed on the unit, then? And, if it's not, what could have happened to make it disappear?

AirPlay is installed ok if you see the word 'Upgrade' appear briefly when it is switched on.

With both your Marantz and laptop connected to a network you can play music, stored on your laptop, through the Marantz.

To do this you will need to connect both you laptop and Marantz to your Broadband router and then run some media sharing software on your laptop. Windows Media Player will work if you enable sharing but there are other free DLNA compliant servers available. I haven't tried Spotify but if it is DLNA compliant it may well work.

Once the Marantz and the laptop are on the network and Media Player is running select Music Server on the Marantz and after about a minute you should see the name of your laptop appear in the Marantz's menu.

Good luck

Yes that's one way of doing it, but we're trying to get Airplay working for him, so that he can stream any airplay-enabled device (iPhone, iPad, laptop) to it, rather than running a media server.

Does anybody know how to reset the Marantz back to factory settings. I figure it might help to just start all over again. Would I be able to download Airplay again for free? Has anybody done this.

I'm really running out of ideas (not that I had many in the first place).

Can't believe everything worked as it should just ONCE before it all went belly up.

It's as though the Marantz is picking up (some) of the computers on the network, but it's not making itself available to anything on the network. Does this make sense to anyone?

hang on, chaps, SUCCESS.

I unplugged the ethernet cable from the router and plugged it in to one of the other two available sockets. BINGO.

Don't know if it was just because I unplugged it and plugged it back in, or whether the first socket is faulty. At the moment, I'm scared to unplug it again to find out just in case it goes belly up again. Just going to enjoy some tunes for a while...

Thanks to everyone who contributed to try to find a solution.

Fingers crossed...
