I am interested in getting the absolute superior sound from MP3 files I can acheived when connecting my MacBook to my amp. What is the best way to go about this? Do I need a new sound card and if so which one? Which cords do I need to use?
All you need is a mini-jack to twin phono lead (from Maplin, perhaps.) That will work perfectly well, but don't forget that the limiting factor in your quest for 'absolute superior' sound quality will be the mp3s. They will sound worse than CDs and you will notice the difference more the better the system you're using.
Definitely not! I'm a music teacher and run my MacBook and iPod through the 5:1 system in my room. The sub certainly fills out the slightly weedy mp3 sound and what is lost in absolute hi-fi is made up for in convenience. I only use an external soundcard for recording (but that's another ball game!)
