Confused by what is doing the digital to analogue conversion!? Stupid question!

Hi all, I have a PS3 hooked up to my Yamaha YSP 600 Soundbar. Since the Soundbar cannot handle multichannel PCM, I can only get Dolby Digital by outputting a bitstream signal when watching blu rays etc from the PS3.

With regards to streaming music to the PS3, the PS3 seems to use a linear PCM signal, which is what is diplayed on the Soundbar "PCM". Can I ask the stupid question of what DAC is being used? Is it the one on the Soundbar or the PS3? Is there any way of switching between the Soundbar DAC and the PS3 DAC to see what is better?

Thanks

The soundbar is doing the digital to analogue conversion, and unfortunately unless you have a product able to accept multichannel analogue input, there's no way of shifting that conversion back to the player. The PS3 can only output analogue in stereo.
