I desperatly require some much needed diectional information regarding " hard drive " hi-fi. I currently have a much loved and valued hi-fi system ( Denon UPO 250 comprising of cd player, power amp, integrated amp with tuner, married with B&W 686 speakers / QEd silver annivwesary cable, Project debut turntable ) i have a sizeable CD catalogue i would like to "downsize" by means of ripping to a hard drive of some description, i have already considered the Philips Streamium system but do not consider this to be "hi-fi" prior to this i have also considered the Brennan JB7 but this only seems to be available over the internet ( no apparent high street / dealers ) as to demo. I am reluctant to give up my Denon as this has given me years of l aural pleasure, maybe somebody can coax me along the path to righteousness !!??

You don't need to give up the Denon, provided it has external inputs, in fact for most media servers you'll need it as few of them include amplification, you have any number of options, depending on your budget, from a simple Squeezebox setup or a single Sonos ZP90 into the amp or you could go crazy-nuts and spend thousands and thousands but I don't know anything about that level of gear.

Initially though I'd probably look at Squeezebox or a single Sonos zone as you haven't mentioned you want any kind of multi-room capability. Have you got an iPhone?

Thanks IHC will certainly consider your suggestion, no i do not have an I phone but i did not have enough time yesterday to put down all the information that i had to hand at the time, do not want to consider using I phone or I pod for that matter, any other suggestions? my budget would possibly be around £400-500 Have or do you know of any one person that has experienced the brennan JB7

The iPhone was simply to use the Controller app for Sonos, and save yourself the cost of buying a controller. Without it you'll need a ZP90 and a Controller and that's going to blow your budget I'm afraid.

For that budget you should be able to get the Squeezebox Duet, with money to spare, I'm afraid I don't know anything about the JB7 (never heard of it in fact).
