Hi everyone,

I'm looking to get some good quality speakers to use with my PC/Laptop and possibly my iPod. Whilst I'm not an audiophile, I like to hear the detail in the music I listen to. I primarily listen to guitar based music (rock, pop, blues, metal) but do also listen to electronic, classical and other kinds of music.

From reading around I've come up with two options:

- M-Audio AV 40 (for around £70 inc. delivery)

- Samson StudioDock 3i (for around £90 inc. delivery)

Can anyone offer advice on:

- if either of these is better than the other? (Other than the Samson's having the added bonus of the iPod dock.)

- if there are any better prices out there?

- if there is another set that I should re-consider instead of one of these?

Thanks for all your help.

I have M-Audio AV40 and thet are very good indeed! (even though I paid €225 for them !)

I don;t know about the Samsons, but i would propose that at some stage you consider a decent DAC. It will make your music much better!

I have the 3is and though I've nothing to compare them with, the sound is good. If you like a bit of base though you might be better with a subwoofer as well. Maybe the AV40s give you base too.
