Having had a Yam dsp e800 processor linked to a Marantz pm 6000se for the last hundred years i am seeking a replacement but am worried about the stereo capabilities as the living room will be both the music and cinema room. Previously i have had the dedicated stereo amp for music with the extra 3.1 channels feed by the processor but these only seem to exist at mega money today !!

If i was to choose between the Sony 1200es, the Denon AVR-2808 and the Onkyo TX-SR606 which would be the best compromise in terms of stereo musical ability ?

It must have HDMI switching and preferably HD encoding ( the Sony lacks this ).

My speakers are missions 773,780c,77ds (x4) and Paradigm 10000 sub fed with cable talk biwire ( soon to change to QED silver biwire) and QED 79 strand for satellites.

I hope someone can advise as i want the new amp to give as many years of pleasure as my Yammy has.

Thanks

Matt

P.S. My best ever upgrade was splashing £90 on my Audioquest phono cables after using a £30 monster cable for years .

The Sony 1200es is getting replaced by the Sone 2400es that offers HD encoding - price is £370 i think from memory and according to Play.com is available as of today - might be worth a look at the 1200 was ok with music.

As the Denon and Sony have preouts you can use them in much the same way as the yamaha, connected to your stereo amp.
You can't with an Onkyo 606.

(So go Denon or Sony and keep your stereo coming from a stereo amp as it should be)
