Hi

How do i connect the chord mojo via coaxial input to an ipod?

have a read of post #3 from http://www.head-fi.org/t/784602/chord-mojo-the-official-thread-please-read-the-3rd-post/16905#post_12540419

post #16907 also reminds that older ipods cannot be connected, because of Os issues.
I got halfway through that and lost the will to live! Lol..I put my iPod through my sonic impact t amp..just using the iPods dac...i find it hard to believe the Mojo would better what I heard? I'm talking about through my hifi..i also think iPods are designed for headphones and can't see why a mojo headphone/dac thingy would be any better? It may be better through headphones? But the sound of iPod through t amp into hifi..(no pre amp used) is astonishing..

I have tried to connect the iPod classic to mojo via a 3.5mm to 3.5mm headphone jack (fio 16)Also tried Russ Andrews 30 pin to 3.5 MM. Jack ; that worked with my previous ibasso amp/DAC to iPod combination

Not going to work via 3.5mm to 3.5mm, as you are trying to connect an analogue output to a digital input. And I'm afraid the 30-pin-to-3.5mm or even a 30-pin-to-USB isn't going to work either: as the Mojo manual says,

"In order to use USB audio you will require an Apple device running iOS 6 or later, and it needs the lightnng connector rather than the old 30 pin connector."

As far as I recall, some of the ibasso models have a line input as well as digital, allowing them to function purely as a headphone amp as well as a DAC/amp; the Mojo doesn't provide this option, but can only be used with a digital input, as a DAC or DAC/headphone amp.

The only way round the problem would be a device such as the Pure i-20 dock, which has been around for ages, and can extract digital audio via the 30-pin connector and feed it out through conventional optical and coaxial sockets, which you could connect to the Mojo via an optical Toslink cable, or via a phono-to-3.5mm coaxial one.

However, it's not portable, requiring mains power, and I'd check whether it works with your particular iPod before buying, as it isn't compatible with all models.

I'm not sure whether there are other similar devices: I'm not aware of any, although I think Arcam may have had something similar at one point*, but I must admit I haven't looked into this in any detail. I had an i-20 ages ago, and was amazed to discover it was still on sale!

* EDIT: Yes, it did: it was called the drDock, but it's no longer available.
