OK the story so far...

Panny 42inch 1080p HD Plasma, Panny 35 Bluray and Jamo 102 speakers fed by SKY HD.

So which amp......Sony 820 or the Yamaha 763 both get full marks from WTF and the budget can cover either amp. So what should I do.

Help............. please

Regards

Pete

I don't know anything about either amp, but for what it's worth Yamaha have been making highly rated AV amps for quite a long time (I have a Yamaha A3090 which was the first Dolby Digital equipped AV amp released in the UK, over 10 years old now and still going strong!).

By all accounts the Yammy is, if not far superior, at least the next level in AV equipment. It is limited to only 2 HDMI inputs and has no radio though.

This wasn't an issue for me, as I only want to route the BD player through my amp via HDMI, as I want Sky to go direct to the tv (so the missus doesn't have to have the amp on for sound), but with an optical still to the amp - for when we do want it. I still have one spare for an X-Box, should I want one.

I don't want a radio either, so no problem there.

I'd get the Yamaha, its a step up from the Sony with a minimal additional outlay. I bought one and am loving listening to surround sources, being my first AV I can't help but watch my dvds again!

Thanks for the replies. I'm off to the sandpit for a few weeks so will have saved enough money by the time I get back.

Rgds
