I've decided to go wireless but I'm not keen on goin through wifi/through the router, I rather go through Bluetooth 4 ease of use plus through the router won't always be available for me. I've looked at the chordette gem seems simple enough plug and play but am I making a good choice is there anything out there I am missing any advice will be helpful

The Chrodette Gem is one of the better solutions for doing this - I've used it for playing music from my bluetooth phone and the quality is very good. As a slightly more expensive option, the Chordette Peach is a more advanced version of the Gem with additional features.
On the cheaper side, if you don't want something as featured, the Audioengine W1 is an excellent USB wireless option that simply comes with a USB transmitter and USB receiver (that also features a 3.5mm jack output to connect to your system) - I use this at work and at home and its one of the best simple solutions I've used.

I'm hooking it up to a amp then to b&w 685 speakers so looking for something a bit more expensive than the audioengine w1s of cause Theres the Arcam rdac how do these perform?
Can't comment as I haven't heard it - if you want something higher end than a simple wireless adaptor, my recommendation would go for the Chordette Gem. After all Chord Electronics produce some of the most high end gear available and the Gem is - if anything, a trickled down version of the QDB76. Have you had a chance to try/listen to one yet?
The Chordette Gem is both a Bluetooth audio receiver and USB DAC. I find its audio quality to be very good especially when using apt-x codec. To get the most out of it, you will need a suitable apt-x transmitter (dongle) if you are playing audio from a PC. Creative UK do a USB or iPod one for £39.99 (less 25%).
There are some other more "cost effective" Bluetooth solutions that also use apt-x and the ones I know of are:
* QED uPlay - around £60 - £70
* Cambridge Audio DacMagic Plus and BT100 apt-x receiver - about £350 + £70 for BT100
I have a Gem, and have had a QED uPlay - the Gem is considerably better in terms of audio quality and the build quality / aesthetics are just phenomenal ... if you go for that sort of thing. If you are interested in the Chordette Gem, then if you take a look at other devices in the Chordette range - you can get the Bluetooth receiver and amplifier together in the shape of a Chordette Maxx. However the prices of the Gem and especially the Maxx are very expensive in comparison with other more conventional options.
If you were to go for a Bluetooth receiver, then you could couple it up to a small class D amp such as a Temple Audio Bantam / Bantam Gold and have a super little system!
