Hi all,

Okay so forgive the sheer ignorance here, but I'm hoping you guys might be able to help me.

I'm putting together a super cheap hi-fi setup in my office for a turntable, CD, TV/set top box and DVD to run through. I've done a bit of a Frankenstein job to make sure that all can be run – mainly the turntable – and have ended up with the following.

Receiver:

Yamaha RX-450

Speakers:

Ripped from a Sharp CD-C421

Basically, I can't get it to work. The speakers are working on the CD-C421 unit without an issue, but plugged into the RX-450 there's absolutely nothing.

Any thoughts as to why this may be? Am I kidding myself thinking this would work in the first place?

Thanks!

A little extra info in case it helps at all...

The speaker input on the amp says:

A OR B 6O MIN /Speaker

A + B 12O MIN /Speaker

The main speakers (of which there are two) say:

Impedance 5.4 OHMS

While the smaller ones (again, two of them) say:

Impedance: 16 OHMS

Does this mean the speakers aren't cut out to run from this amp? I have no idea about this impedance stuff.
